The Menlo boys and girls swept the PAL playoff titles on Saturday at Woodside High. The girls romped to an 18-5 victory over Gunn while the boys held off Bellarmine, 11-7. Senior Chrissy Guibara led Menlo (15-6) with five goals and three assists. Ashley Porter added three goals and three assists while Sophia Zahoudanis, Erica Swanson and Caroline Crandall all added two goals each. .... (Back to Top)

Lacrosse The Menlo School girls lacrosse team cruised to a12-4 win over Castilleja yesterday. Senior Ashley Porter led the way for the Knights with five goals and sophomore Molly Lapolla chipped in three. The other Menlo goals came from Katherine Walters , Sophia Vahoudanis , and Chrissy Guibara . Castilleja received a strong effort from Logan McClure who scored three of the four goals for Castilleja. Girls Lacrosse Devon Davey threw in five goals for M-A, while Woodside was paced by the play of defender Laura Lasher and three goals from Heather Losey. Ashley Porter slammed in five goals and Megan Texeira, Gabby Bressack and Bethany Curd led the defense for league-leader Menlo School (7-6, 4-0) in a 12-4 win over Castilleja (0-5, 0-3). game “I was proud of how hard the girls fought,” said Lee . “They wanted to schedule a rematch as soon as the match was over. That is always encouraging after a loss.” Senior captain Sophia Zahoudanis scored the other goal for Menlo (1-2), who dropped its second straight game. All of the Knights’ scores came in the second half. Menlo returns to action on Friday when they host Bishop O’Dowd. (Back to Top)

“ Katherine was outstanding for us today,” said Menlo head coach Jenn Lee . “She had some lethal shots.” Menlo trailed 5-3 at the half before mounting a furious comeback with four late second half goals. Senior captain Chrissy Guibara scored the last goal for Menlo with a little over a minute left. Erica Swanson and Sophia Zahodanis also added a goal each for the Knights. “It was heartbreaking for us because we beat one of the teams Acalanes had lost to,” said Menlo head coach Jenn Lee . On paper it looked good, but we had a problem with the heat today and didn’t have our ‘A’ game.”
Menlo will return to action on
Tuesday for its home opener
against St. Ignatius. March 10, 2004: San Mateo County Times: Menlo scores lacrose upset By Simi Lee, CORRESPONDENT The Menlo School girls lacrosse team opened the season with an upset win over previously undefeated Berkeley 6-3 in a non-league game Tuesday. Ashley Porter and Sophia Zahoudanis had two goals each for Menlo School (1-0). Berkeley suffered its first loss and slipped to 2-1. (Back to Top) The girls’ lacrosse team began its
season undefeated (2-0) in the PAL with convincing
victories over Menlo-Atherton and Leland. Overall,
the Knights were 5-4. by Tim Goode , Sports Information Director (Back to Top) The team hopes to improve on last year’s 19-10 record. Menlo will compete in a league (PAL) and hope to contend for the championship. The Knights return 13 talented seniors and most of them have played four years of lacrosse. Captains are Chrissy Guibara and Sophia Zahoudanis. Katherine Walters, who scored 45 goals last season, is at line attacker. Ashley Porter, Bethany Curd and Caitlin Morrison will lead the defense, with Christina Ryan in goal. They are joined by yet more seniors: Alina Huang, Katie Strachan, Nat Barrales, Kameran Johnson and Faith Goss, and first-year player Tiffany Lee. Three juniors will make significant contributions. Julia Martin was an All-American as a sophomore and a Pacific Region national team player. Caroline Crandall is a solid attacker and Caitlin Roberts will debut on varsity after two years with the frosh-soph. Nearly a dozen sophomores return to the program. Returning to varsity will be midfielder Molly Lapolla and line defender Gabi Bressack. The rest of the crew includes: Mary O’Reilly, Erica Swanson, Sarah Montgomery, Katy McKinnon, Alex Steiny, Michelle Wegenstein, Megan Teixeira and goalkeeper Shannon Chung. Kerry Wang is recovering from injury, but should be back soon. Although many freshmen are still playing winter sports, early arrivals include Gracie Brown, Caroline Clark, Chloe Menkes, Stephanie Glenn and Steph Levin. Over spring break, the girls are going to Orlando, Florida, for spring training at Walt Disney’s Wide World of Sports.
