May. 04, 2005: San Jose Mercury News: Athletes of the Week

JULIA MARTIN, MENLO SCHOOL - Sport: Lacrosse.

Position: Center/Utility Class: Senior.

Accomplishment: Last week, Martin's speed, strength and agility helped Menlo School defeat Sacred Heart Prep 15-3 and Woodside 8-2 as the Knights improved to 8-3 in the Peninsula Athletic League. Martin, the captain, is an integral part of the Knights' success. She is a statistical standout, recording 60 draw controls, 60 ground balls, 21 assists, 20 pure interceptions and 26 goals this season. ``She is the kind of player that dominates on the field, and not only does she stand out, but she helps her teammates stand out as well,'' Coach Jen Lee said. Martin is a two-time All-American, and her command of the field has garnered national attention. She will play Division I lacrosse for William and Mary next year. (Back to Top)

Apr 15. 2005: Palo Alto Weekly: Girls Lacrosse


Gunn (6-0) tuned up for Tuesday's showdown with visiting Menlo for first place in the PAL by holding off host Woodside, 9-3. Kate Kosco led the Titans with three goals while Maggie Wynn and Anastasia Kostrovkova added two each.

Gunn handed Menlo its first-ever league loss, 6-5, in their first meeting. The Knights are the defending league champs. Game time on Tuesday is 4 p.m.  (Back to Top)

... Elsewhere in the PAL, Menlo got five goals from Erica Swanson in a 14-5 win over Woodside' Julia Daly scored three goals as Sacred Heart Prep defeated visiting Pioneer, 9-7; and Ashley D'Amour and Katie Given scored twice in Castilleja's 11-8 loss to host Leland.

March 25, 2005: Palo Alto Weekly : Girls lacrosse by Keith Peters

Molly Lapolla scored five goals and Erica Swanson added two in leading Menlo to a 10-7 victory over host Leland in a Peninsula Athletic League match. The Knights improved to 3-1 (4-3 overall).  (Back to Top)


March 16, 2005: Palo Alto Weekly : Girls lacrosse by Keith Peters

Gunn (2-0) pulled off a big upset by edging host Menlo, 6-5, in a Peninsula Athletic League match last week. The loss for the Knights was their first ever in league play.

Kate Kosco scored three goals for the Titans while Maggie Wynn added two and Becka Tisdale had won. Menlo juniors Megan Teixiera and Erica Swanson each scored twice to pace the Knights (2-1, 3-3).

"It was a very intense game," said Menlo coach Jen Lee. "Gunn played very well."

The game was a rematch of last season's PAL championship game, won by Menlo.  (Back to Top)
