Menlo Dance

Dance at Menlo has been thriving since it first began in 1982. it has evolved into a full-time program consisting of Beginning to Advanced Performance, and along with Chorus, Art, and Drama, is part of the Freshman Rotation program, created to introduce the arts to 9th graders. Currently, in addition to the dance classes, the performance groups are

  • Knight Dancers—Varsity dance group
  • MidKnights—JV dance group
  • Knight Life—Hip Hop
  • IgKnight—JV Hip Hop

The groups perform at various functions on and off campus throughout the year, and end with the Annual Dance Concert held in March. The Dance Concert consistently sells out all performances and involved from 60 to 80 Menlo students including including Middle School dancers.

JAN CHANDLER, Dance Instructor and Choreographer, has taught dance at Menlo since 1982, and began her dance career at age 3. She choreographs the Dance Concert, the Upper School musicals and the Annual Benefit every year. She has performed throughout California in musicals, conventions, and charity events. She was a former member of Jazz Set out of Dance Arts Center in San Mateo with Berle Davis, the choreographer of "Broadway by the Bay" (formerly PCLO) and with the Avia Dance Team representing Avia shoes and fitness apparel. the group also produced its own fitness video.
